Profile of Wildlife Artist Randy Muir
I’ve enjoyed art since I was a small child. At the age of 5, I was drawing recognizable cartoon characters. For the most part, I'm a self-taught artist with no formal training.
I live in Frostburg, Maryland. My wife’s name is Beverly and we have 4 children; Craig, Nic (6-25-87 - 4-13-07), Lauren and Dustin.
I have lived in the mountains of Western Maryland nearly all of my life. I haven't hunted since I was a teenager, I would much rather photograph animals than kill them. Even the fish I catch are all released. The photos that I take are used in some of my paintings but I have been lucky enough to have two great photographers allow me to use their photos in my artwork, Jack Frank and Tink Smith.
I started to paint wildlife in 1994 and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my artwork featured in the West Virginia Dept. of Natural Resources Wildlife Calendars . My work has been seen in “Wildlife Art Magazine”, “West Virginia Magazine” and on the cover of “Pool and Billiard Magazine”. Art has been a hobby of mine for most of my life but I made my living as a Sign painter for 30 years.
Thanks for your time,
Randy
